Marking Time

Sittin' down here by the riverside
staring at the stars out in the sky
and they're looking back
from years past
and the campfire cracks
like a stick in the woods
and the moon glows bright
like I know it should
and yet I know
that something's wrong

What do we do about life
We're just marking time
Looking for ways to thrive
All we do is survive
Tell me is that life

It's easy to say how hard it can be
to find the right path
through a thicket of weeds
but you may as well
take the road less traveled
well the moon and the stars
up in the sky
They make you forget about
all the men lining their pockets
with everybody's fear

What do we do about life
We're just marking time
Looking for ways to thrive
All we do is survive
Tell me is that life

Take a look around, do you like what you see
No human interaction, just a bunch of
lit up cell phone screens
Why do that today when we can worry tomorrow
give us one more day to delay our sorrow
but I know, we all know it's coming soon

What do we do about life
We're just marking time
Looking for ways to thrive
All we do is survive
Tell me is that life

Sittin' down here by the riverside
staring at the stars out in the sky
and they're looking back
from years past
and the campfire cracks
like a stick in the woods
and the moon glows bright
like I know it should
and now I know
ain't nothing wrong

Well, well, What do we do about life
We're just marking time
Looking for ways to thrive
All we do is survive
Tell me is that life

Shabooms

A little dirty ol' bar
with the same ol' drunks as last week
Beat up guitar case leans on the wall
Popcorn by the back door
nudie pictures in the stalls
Another damn open mic down at Shabooms

Longneck PBR and rot-gut whiskey
Spliffs and cigarettes out in the back
I ain't always sure
but i'm pretty sure someone's smoking crack
Another damn open mic down at Shabooms

Well the music's always rockin'
and the beer is always cold
the next youngest person in this bar
looks like he's 125 years old

Dick Frost runs the show behind his 6 string
Kathy Sabine always holds downt he beat
It's the best house band in all the land
and it's all just down the street
Another damn open mic down at Shabooms

Hope You're Happy

I know I messed up
know it's true
and it's so hard seeing you
but one thing's true
it's long overdue

It was a hot burning fire
when we lit it
but a slow growing distance
undid it
I'm sorry I quit
but I'll never forget you

I'm not supposed to say
that I regret it
Supposed to lie through my teeth
and forget it
But with every sunset
I get a little less upset
missing you
I'm not missing you

I hope you're happy was the last thing you said

I hope you're happy was the last thing you said
Warm tears rolled down as the cold feeling spread

Planting a Burning Tree

Another day come and gone
another chorus to the same damn song
You think you're right but you're left with wrong

So you beat your fist on the wall
wonder if you've ever felt so small
your life needs an overhaul

Another day of being depressed
Can't remember feelin' at your best
The World is sitting heavy on your chest

Don't let it last one more minute
Life's a game so you might as well win it
If it ain't going your way then spin it

Give up on your misery
Make your own destiny
Cause living with your agony
is like planting a burning tree

So you go to the job you hate
thinking that you've sealed your fate
living your life to intoxicate

No this ain't the end of the line
No you're never out of time
You got a goal that you can't define

Take a leap, try and catch that dream
take a chance and steal the scene
Life's bursting at the seam

So don't let it last one more minute
Life's a game so you might as well win it
If it ain't going your way then spin it

Give up on your misery
Make your own destiny
Cause living with your agony
is like planting a burning tree

Your perfect life's not far away
take a leap, take a chance today
You had a path but you went astray

So don't let it last one more minute
Life's a game so you might as well win it
If it ain't going your way then spin it

Give up on your misery
Set fire to your agony
Cause living with your Misery
is like planting a burning tree

River

The river runs cold
as free as these stones are old
own through the valley
where the mountains hold
a little bit of heaven
and a whole lot of gold

The river runs wild
like a young Cherokee child
He's gonna be free
'til the day he dies
Little bit of stone
and a whole lot of sky

The River Ran High
The day my daddy died
He's buried in the valley
where the mountains hold
a little bit of heaven
and a whole lot of gold

The river runs cold
as free as these stones are old
own through the valley
where the mountains hold
a little bit of heaven
and a whole lot of gold
