Marking Time

Sittin' down here by the riverside
staring at the stars out in the sky
and they're looking back
from years past
and the campfire cracks
like a stick in the woods
and the moon glows bright
like I know it should
and yet I know
that something's wrong

What do we do about life
We're just marking time
Looking for ways to thrive
All we do is survive
Tell me is that life

It's easy to say how hard it can be
to find the right path
through a thicket of weeds
but you may as well
take the road less traveled
well the moon and the stars
up in the sky
They make you forget about
all the men lining their pockets
with everybody's fear

What do we do about life
We're just marking time
Looking for ways to thrive
All we do is survive
Tell me is that life

Take a look around, do you like what you see
No human interaction, just a bunch of
lit up cell phone screens
Why do that today when we can worry tomorrow
give us one more day to delay our sorrow
but I know, we all know it's coming soon

What do we do about life
We're just marking time
Looking for ways to thrive
All we do is survive
Tell me is that life

Sittin' down here by the riverside
staring at the stars out in the sky
and they're looking back
from years past
and the campfire cracks
like a stick in the woods
and the moon glows bright
like I know it should
and now I know
ain't nothing wrong

Well, well, What do we do about life
We're just marking time
Looking for ways to thrive
All we do is survive
Tell me is that life

Shabooms

A little dirty ol' bar
with the same ol' drunks as last week
Beat up guitar case leans on the wall
Popcorn by the back door
nudie pictures in the stalls
Another damn open mic down at Shabooms

Longneck PBR and rot-gut whiskey
Spliffs and cigarettes out in the back
I ain't always sure
but i'm pretty sure someone's smoking crack
Another damn open mic down at Shabooms

Well the music's always rockin'
and the beer is always cold
the next youngest person in this bar
looks like he's 125 years old

Dick Frost runs the show behind his 6 string
Kathy Sabine always holds downt he beat
It's the best house band in all the land
and it's all just down the street
Another damn open mic down at Shabooms

Hope You're Happy

I know I messed up
know it's true
and it's so hard seeing you
but one thing's true
it's long overdue

It was a hot burning fire
when we lit it
but a slow growing distance
undid it
I'm sorry I quit
but I'll never forget you

I'm not supposed to say
that I regret it
Supposed to lie through my teeth
and forget it
But with every sunset
I get a little less upset
missing you
I'm not missing you

I hope you're happy was the last thing you said

I hope you're happy was the last thing you said
Warm tears rolled down as the cold feeling spread

Planting a Burning Tree

Another day come and gone
another chorus to the same damn song
You think you're right but you're left with wrong

So you beat your fist on the wall
wonder if you've ever felt so small
your life needs an overhaul

Another day of being depressed
Can't remember feelin' at your best
The World is sitting heavy on your chest

Don't let it last one more minute
Life's a game so you might as well win it
If it ain't going your way then spin it

Give up on your misery
Make your own destiny
Cause living with your agony
is like planting a burning tree

So you go to the job you hate
thinking that you've sealed your fate
living your life to intoxicate

No this ain't the end of the line
No you're never out of time
You got a goal that you can't define

Take a leap, try and catch that dream
take a chance and steal the scene
Life's bursting at the seam

So don't let it last one more minute
Life's a game so you might as well win it
If it ain't going your way then spin it

Give up on your misery
Make your own destiny
Cause living with your agony
is like planting a burning tree

Your perfect life's not far away
take a leap, take a chance today
You had a path but you went astray

So don't let it last one more minute
Life's a game so you might as well win it
If it ain't going your way then spin it

Give up on your misery
Set fire to your agony
Cause living with your Misery
is like planting a burning tree

River

The river runs cold
as free as these stones are old
own through the valley
where the mountains hold
a little bit of heaven
and a whole lot of gold

The river runs wild
like a young Cherokee child
He's gonna be free
'til the day he dies
Little bit of stone
and a whole lot of sky

The River Ran High
The day my daddy died
He's buried in the valley
where the mountains hold
a little bit of heaven
and a whole lot of gold

The river runs cold
as free as these stones are old
own through the valley
where the mountains hold
a little bit of heaven
and a whole lot of gold

Workhorse

Oh, I Remember
I recall
all the times that you thought
I'd fall down
but look at me now
my back is straight
My chin is up
My eyes are wide open
No, I can't feel your hate

I sometimes forget
what I'm supposed to do
but give me a day
I'll find a way on through
Don't try to pin me down
don't you try to bind my wrists
No you've never seen a workhorse, baby
Nothin' quite like this

Whisper On The Wind

Another light turned off
the room got a little darker
another star burned out
sends its life showering down
it hits you in the back
No way to see it coming
So when I die, don't cry for me
hold the ones in need around you

The love was lost
been gone for so long
we built this all up
just to have it torn from our arms
We can't let this one thing
decide who we are
Like a whisper on the wind
It's gone before you know it

I lost my friend
left way too goddamn soon
another mind was closed
left for the dark side of the moon
we must push on through
to find our way
If we don't we'll be consumed
by the memory of yesterday

Another light turned off
the room got a little darker
another star burned out
sends its life showering down
it hits you in the back
No way to see it coming
So when I die, don't cry for me
hold the ones in need around you

Locomotive

So here we are
this same old place
with every mile I go
I forget another face

so there we go
on down this country road
with heaven above
and our feet below

So here we are
This same old place we were before
With every mile I go
I forget what I'm driving for

And there we go
Chasin' a dream
Like a locomotive baby
Gaining steam

So here we are
This same Old place
With every mile, after mile
I forgot another face

And there we go
Chasin' a dream
like a Locomotive baby
aining steam

Mixed Signals

I don't know where your mind's at girl
Tell me what you really want
You say one thing and you do another
say you'll hit me up and then you don't

Yeah you're givin' me mixed signals
I can't tell if you want me back or not
I will be your sweet baby
but baby you gotta give me a shot

Give me a sign now, pretty mama
do you want me at all?
(Should I give up - just give up and move on?)
I keep puttin myself out there girl
you keep building up walls

Yeah you're givin' me mixed signals honey
I can't tell if you want me back or not
I will be your sweet baby
but baby you gotta give me a shot

Hole In My Coat

The rats are all racing
and I'm off dream chasing
and goddamn it's taken its toll
The bank says I'm broke
got a hole in my coat
but goddamn it's good for the soul

Take me in, put me up
The cold wind's a'blowi
and every breath cuts to the bone
Let me in, Just for a while
I don't have no money
but I'll sing you a song about home

My guitar and my jacket
had more stuff but didn't pack it
these six stings are keepin' me whole
I just needed time to make up my mind
but now I've gone back to the road

Take me in, put me up
The cold wind's a'blowi
and every breath cuts to the bone
Let me in, Just for a while
I don't have no money
but I'll sing you a song about home

Screaming Amazing Grace

Smoke From The Fire goes into the sky
And Brings On a Tear From God's eye.
Champagne clouds and whiskey dreams
this life ain't easy as it seems
The hour is late and the sun's going down
The Rocky Mountain's golden crown
My eyes close as the stars come out
no doubt in my mind this is what it's about

I been on the road now for over a year
All I know about home is that it ain't here
i been rattlin' on like an auctioneer
all I know about home is that it ain't here

And when I dream, I always see her face
Although it seems I cannot name this place
Every single night, the steps that I retrace
lead me right back to the scene of my disgrace

It's been three long years since you closed your eyes
my baby's asleep on the hillside
The day you died, I made up my mind
I'd burn it down, leave it all behind

Feels like a hundred years since she went away
buried in the Colorado clay
In the dead of night, I took her life
with the pale moonlight shining on my knife
Word at the bar was she was gettin' around
Had another man in another town
In a fit of rage, Lord, I went insane
and left her lyin' in the fast lane

And when I dream I always see your face
It takes me back to that cursed time and place
You start to scream and all I hear is amazing grace
can't be redeemed, now I long for your embrace

I been on the road now for too damn long
she done me dirty and I done her wrong
I been on the road now for too damn long
he done me dirty and I done her wrong
